Vanderbeek’s senior returning quarterback, Ryan Kovacs, made key adjustments last season as he learned his new no-huddle offense and while senior defensive lineman, Ryan Hrabinski, admits that the fast pace offensive is impressive, he also thinks the Pioneer defense should not be overlooked. This is because Vanderbeek has introduced rugby-style tackling to his team thanks to his five assistant coaches who once attended Rutgers University. With the aid of a young and experienced coaching staff, Somerville is looking to have another strong season. The Pioneers play their first game at home against Cranford, whom they defeated last season 41-17.
