Saint John Vianney proved to be the best in the always competitive Shore Conference after a 9-0 regular season that featured wins over traditional powers Rumson-Fair Haven, Middletown South and Red Bank Catholic. The Lancers made a statement in the opening round of the playoffs with a road win at previously unbeaten Camden Catholic before losing to St. Joe’s-Montvale in the state semifinals. 16 starters on both sides of the ball are back with the lofty goal of taking the next step and being on par with the best in the entire state. With Haaziq Daniels back at quarterback and dangerous playmakers Samuel East and Zyaire Sterling in the receiving corps, the offense also features a mammoth offensive line that stays strong despite losing Micah Clark and Jamaal Beaty to Rutgers. On defense, Nick Densieski is coming off a 15 sack season and Johnny Buchanan will be one of the best two-way players in the state as a ballhawk at middle linebacker and a power runner in the backfield.
