Bergen Catholic 4 Old Tappan 2 | Bergen County Tournament Semifinal

Luca Reyes had redemption on his mind when he stepped up to bat in the bottom of the sixth inning.

After failing to convert on a bases loaded opportunity in the fourth inning, Reyes refocused and hit one of the biggest home runs, literally and figuratively, for the Crusaders this season.

Reyes’ three-run blast proved to be the go-ahead hit as top-seeded Bergen Catholic (24-4) powered by fourth-seeded Old Tappan (17-10) to punch their ticket to the 2023 Bergen County Tournament final.

The Knights, who were eliminated in the state tournament earlier this week, sent Vanderbilt commit Alex Kranzler to the mound for his final high school start. Kranzler did everything he could to keep Old Tappan in this game – he threw the full allotment of 110 pitches over six full innings and even hit a solo home run.

Bergen Catholic will face No. 2 seed Don Bosco Prep in the Bergen County Tournament final – that is set to be played at Demarest High School on Sunday, May 28 at noon.
