Jersey Sports Zone looks back on the impact Kyle Mullen had at Manalapan High School

National headlines hit close to home when a Navy Seal candidate died Feb. 4 while going through the training regimen known as “Hell Week”. Kyle Mullen, a 2015 graduate of Manalapan High School, was identified by Navy officials on Sunday. He was 24 years old. Mullen played college football at Yale University where he was a team captain and finished his playing career at Monmouth University.

At Manalapan, Mullen was a rare two-way starter for a Braves team that went 11-1 in 2014 winning the Central Jersey Group 5 championship. Mullen had 136 tackles at defensive end and caught six TD passes for head coach Ed Gurrieri. He was also a starter on the Manalapan boys basketball team.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Mullen family and the Manalapan community. Kyle was featured numerous times during our first year of coverage in the Shore Conference:
