Our team of MMJ’s are highlighting batches of stellar performances with game ball voting where players in every corner of the state are honored on a weekly basis. Did we miss a player? Jersey Sports Zone honors the top performers from Week Six in high school football with our Jersey Sports Zone Game Balls. We have ten nominees in four sections of the state. The polls are open now through Tuesday at 3:00 pm. We will stop by a midweek practice to present the winners with a JSZ Game Ball. Watch 9.5 Soccer Highlights
JSZ has highlights of four Wednesday soccer games including a high profile showdown between Delran and CBA. Watch all the action! CBA 2 Delran 0 – Boys Soccer Jack Gill scored in the 6th minute and Luke Pascarella secured an insurance goal in the 73rd minute as the Colts get a statement opening win in a matchup of two teams ranked in the top ten in the preseason state polls. JSZ’s Bryan DeNovellis has all the action from Lincroft: Highland Park 5 South River 2 – Boys Soccer Defending Central Group 1 Champs Highland Park began the new soccer season with a win over the team who they beat 8-7 to get to reach the semifinals, South River. The Owls gained a commanding 3 goal lead at halftime, in the second half Highland Park only allowed a late goal in the closing minutes to walk away with a 5-2 victory. Voorhees 6 North Plainfield 0 – Girls Soccer Voorhees’ came out aggressive in their 2018 home opener against the North Plainfield Canucks. By halftime the Vikings lead 4-0 thanks to the offensive stylings of Colby Gavornik and Tessa Maddaloni who each had two goals a piece in the Vikings 6-0 victory. Check out full highlights of this game now: Dunellen 3 South Amboy 1 – Girls Soccer Erika Orellana had a goal and an assist and the Destroyers broke a 1-1 tie with two second-half goals to open the season with a road win. These nominations are composed of athletes who had top, player of the week-worthy, performances across the Mid-State. North Plainfield’s Tony Godwin scores his 1,000th point
If North Plainfield’s Tony Godwin isn’t on your radar, he should be. Godwin is the second highest scorer in the garden state this basketball season (22 PPG). While he puts together 20 plus point performances in just about every game, the stats from his match up against Belvidere on Thursday would have more meaning than usual. Tony Godwin was 9 points away from reaching 1,000 career points entering the game. When he finally did hit the milestone in the fourth quarter, he reflected on the goal he set for himself since middle school. North Plainfield 2017 Football Preview
Jimmy DiPaolo is the new head man at North Plainfield taking over for Mark Ciccotelli. The Canucks are coming off a 3-7 season and have a clear goal for 2017: make the playoffs and make history. North Plainfield has been to the post-season nine times, but has never won a playoff contest.
