Ocean 27 Monmouth 7

Long Branch High hosted the US Army All-Shore Gridiron Classic pitting graduated high school seniors from Ocean County and Monmouth County.  Jackson Memorial’s Matt Castronuova had two TD catches to grab offensive MVP honors and Brick Memorial’s Karl Kumm added two field goals and a TD catch to help lead a dominant effort by Ocean in a 27-7 win over Monmouth.  Brick Township’s Carmen Sclafani, who played his final competitive football game as he turns his attention towards Division I baseball at Rutgers, got things going with a great opening drive that saw him go 5-5 in the air and break a 27 yard run capping off with a one yard TD pass to Castronuova.  Up 10-0 at the half, Ocean busted it open on Jackson Memorial’s Joe DeMaio finding Karl Kumm wide open on a 45 yard scoring play off a play action fake and then Lacey quarterback Conor Davies lined up at wideout and taking a reverse from Brick Memorial’s Connor Owen and heaving a 45 yard score to Castronuova.  Monmouth’s lone touchdown run came on an 8 yard score by Rumson-Fair Haven’s Charlie Volker, who’s on his way to Princeton.  SSZ has all the highlights and post-game reaction:
