RED BANK – CBA’s Brendan van Riemsdyk tallied a hat trick and was named Monmouth MVP for a second straight year leading Monmouth to a 10-6 win over the Ocean County All-Stars on Sunday night at the Jim Dowd All-Star game.  Monmouth had a dominating first period racing out to a 5-1 lead, but Brick’s Andrew Reiss scored late in the first period and then early in the second to close the gap to 5-3.  Ocean would close within 6-5 early in the third period on a goal by Point Pleasant Boro’s Steve Kovaleski, but Monmouth would outscore its opponent 4-1 from there to get the victory.

The 17th edition of the All-Star game was once again hosted by Jim Dowd, the former 1995 Stanley Cup champion with the New Jersey Devils and 17 year NHL veteran.  Dowd’s Shoot for the Stars Foundation has made numerous contributions to charitable organizations in Monmouth and Ocean County.  The 2014 recipient from this year’s All-Star game proceeds went to Hometown Heroes, a Toms River based charity that helps local communities in a time of crisis.
