Matawan defeats Brick 18-12 to win the Shore Conference 7 on 7 tournament – watch the highlights and hear from the Huskies!
BRICK – Matawan’s Makiya Caesar caught a touchdown pass from L.C. Pearson in the final minute to give the Huskies an 18-12 win over Brick Township in the Shore Conference 7 on 7 tournament title game. The game was played prior to the US Army All-Shore Gridiron Classic. Matawan won the Monmouth County 7 on 7 tournament the previous night at Middletown North while Brick Township emerged from the Ocean County tourney at Toms River East, also held on Wednesday night.
The Brick duo of Carmen Sclafani and tight end Simon Bingelis hooked up on a scoring play to give the Dragons a 12-6 lead, but Matawan closed the game with two touchdowns during the continuous thirty minute clock. Pearson is a rising freshman who is expected to share time at quarterback with senior Jimmy Pierce. Shore Sports Zone’s high school football previews begin on August 11th.
