Mackenzie Mgbako is a five-star recruit and one of the best prospects in the class of 2023. The six-foot-seven wing forward has given a verbal commitment to play for Jon Scheyer and the Duke Blue Devils. Mgbako made the announcement prior to playing in the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon where the native of Nigeria is playing with the World All-Stars. Mgbako chose Duke over Kentucky, Memphis, and Ohio State. Scheyer is taking over the reins of the Duke program following the retirement of Mike Krzyzewski following Duke’s run to the Final Four in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

Mgbako was outstanding in his junior season at Gill St. Bernard’s averaging 19.5 points, 10.6 points and 2.9 assists helping GSB win the Somerset County championship and a 20-7 record playing an elite schedule both in and out of New Jersey.

Mackenzie was one of five finalists for JSZ’s Mister Hoop Zone award which went to Camden’s DJ Wagner. Check out Mgbako’s outstanding highlight reel from his junior season:
