Verona Glen-Ridge delivered a Sunday night thriller at Mennen Arena!  Eli Gottlieb had 50 saves and five more in the shootout to give VGR a spot in the state semifinals.  Watch the highlights of one of the best games of the year on ice!

Verona-Glen Ridge 4 Morris Knolls 3 (Shootout) | Public C Quarterfinal

Eli Gottlieb had an amazing performance in goal for VGR with 50 saves through 60 minutes of hockey followed by stopping all five shots in the shootout to avenge last year’s loss to Morris Knolls in overtime in the state semifinals.  Morris Knolls took a 3-2 lead late in the second period on Luke Dickerson’s second goal of the game.  Verona-Glen Ridge’s Rowan Brennan scored his second of the night to tie the game 3-3 in the third period.  Morris Knolls had a 53-27 shots-on-goal advantage.  Gottlieb made 12 saves in overtime setting the stage for a five-round shootout.  Pytor Sysak scored in the first round to give VGR a 1-0 lead in the shootout.  Golden Eagles goalie Aidan Marvin made four straight saves after that, but Gottlieb turned away all five shots to give him 55 total saves.  VGR will face the winner of Governor Livingston and Toms River East in the Public C semifinals on Wednesday at Mennen Arena.
