Legendary coach Bob Hurley brought the Saint Anthony Friars to Lincroft for the Boardwalk Showcase and needed a three-pointer by Xander Rice in the closing seconds to secure a 51-48 win over Ranney and a 41st straight victory.  SSZ has all the highlights and post-game reaction from Brookdale Community College

Saint Anthony 51 Ranney 48

Xander Rice’s three-pointer with 4.2 seconds remaining proved to be the difference as the young Ranney Panthers nearly pulled off an upset.  Trailing 19-8 in the second quarter, Ranney’s Bryan Antoine started a 12 point scoring barrage to help put the Panthers in front 29-27 at the half.  Fellow sophomore Scottie Lewis delivered 12 points, 10 rebounds and 9 blocked shots, but Rice, the son of Monmouth University head men’s basketball coach and former UNC Tar Heel great King Rice, was outstanding from three point range and finished the game with 24 points.  Antoine came up with a steal and slam with just over a minute to go to tie the game at 48.  The Friars elected to hold the ball until the final seconds when Rice launched his game winning shot.  RJ Cole added 18 for Saint Anthony.  Watch the highlights from an oustanding game and hear Bob Hurley’s thoughts on the duo of Antoine and Lewis:
