SSZ All-Zone basketball standout Elijah Barnes of Mater Dei Prep is Ivy League bound after giving a verbal commitment to play Division I basketball at Princeton
6-foot-7 forward Elijah Barnes is on his way to the Ivy League. The soon to be senior at Mater Dei Prep has given a verbal commitment to play Division I basketball at Princeton as reported by several recruiting and media outlets. After transferring to the Seraphs from Central Regional, Barnes averaged over 11 points per game and nearly 5 boards a night. He was a catalyst in Mater Dei’s Shore Conference championship in 2016 and was selected to Shore Sports Zone’s All-Zone boys basketball team. Barnes along with fellow rising seniors Elijah Mitchell and Kenny Jones are expected to once again be one of the Shore’s top boys basketball squads in 2016-17.
Princeton finished 22-7 last season with a 12-2 record in Ivy League play. The Tigers reached the NIT Tournament losing to Virginia Tech in overtime in the first round.
