Jayden Bonsu thrusted himself into a national recruitment last season and has now officially found his future college home.

Surrounded by friends and family on Sunday, Bonsu announced that he’d given a verbal commitment to play at The Ohio State University.

Affectionally known as “Blackjack” by his St. Peter’s Prep teammates and opponents (Bonsu wears No. 21), he double-downed on himself after a productive junior season season and enters the 2022 campaign as one of the top overall players in the Garden State.

Bonsu transferred into St. Peter’s Prep during the 2021 offseason after playing at Hillside his sophomore year. Results at the Jersey City non-public powerhouse came quickly. Bonsu logged 62 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, eight pass deflections and two forced fumbles in 12 games with the Marauders. He was named to JSZ’s All-Zone team for his season-long performance.

In recent years, Ohio State has done a masterful job at recruiting and earning commitments from some of New Jersey’s elite players. Luke Wyler (St. Joe’s Mont.), Ronnie Hickman (DePaul Catholic), Javonte Jean-Baptiste (Bergen Catholic), Tyler Friday (Don Bosco) and also former St. Peter’s Prep linebacker Cody Simon are all currently on Ohio State’s roster heading into the 2022-2023 season.

In regards to this year, Bonsu is one of the headlining players at St. Peter’s Prep. QB Champ Long (Maryland), WR Zion Fowler (Pitt), OL Eric King (Temple) and DL London Robinson (Princeton) are all fellow Division One commits on the roster.
