Former Mater Dei Prep guard Alexander Rice has committed to play Division I basketball in the Patriot League for the Bucknell Bison. Rice, who began his high school career at St. Anthony’s in Jersey City playing under legendary coach Bob Hurley, moved on to Mater Dei Prep for his junior season after the Jersey City school closed its doors. With the sudden departure of Ben Gamble, Rice elected to transfer to the Patrick School for his senior campaign. Rice will team with to Al-Amir Dawes to form one of the most dynamic backcourt duos in New Jersey high school basketball in 2018-19. Alexander’s father, King Rice, was a star at the University of North Carolina and is the current head coach at Monmouth University.
