Week 0 continues with some terrific games all across the Garden State!
Piscataway 26 East Orange 20 | Non-Conference
Piscataway survived a scare in their season opener Saturday as the Chiefs hung on for a 26-20 road win over East Orange. P’Way started off hot with a Zaire Young 25-yard touchdown run on their second play from scrimmage to make it 6-0. The Jaguars then answered back in the 2nd as Jaleel Halsey had a touchdown run of his own from 35 yards out, and the PAT gave them the lead. Later in the quarter, Piscataway’s Cody Hardy intercepted off Zachary Concepcion’s pass from his own end zone and brought it back 25 yards for a pick-six, and the Chiefs held a 13-7 lead at the break.
Late in the 3rd, Concepcion found Eric Wilkins in stride for a 37-yard TD pass and EO took the lead back 14-13. In the 4th, the Chiefs notched two goal-to-go TDs from Young and Jared Harrison to make it 26-14 with under 4:00 left, but East Orange drove right down and Halsey scored his second TD on a walk-in and it was back to a five-point game. The Jaguars then recovered the ensuing onside kick and eventually got back to the goal line with under 30 seconds left, but P’Way stopped them there twice in a row as time expired with Donald Young delivering the final blow!

Ridgewood 42 Montclair 7 | Super Football Conference
Gavin McCrone threw three touchdown passes and Greyson Lovecchio and Beau Wiatrak each had a pair of touchdowns as the Maroons rattled off 42 straight points after falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter. Rorick McCarthy hauled in a 9-yard TD pass in the back of the end zone to tie the game 7-7 and Lovecchio’s first of two TD’s gave Ridgewood the lead for good. The Maroons open the season with a win just two days after learning their home field is unavailable for the entire season due to flood damage. Ridgewood will scramble to find neutral locations for their four scheduled regular season home contests.

Southern 34 Bridgeton 14 | Battle at the Beach
The Matt Abbato era begins with a win for the Rams (1-0), as they led 27-0 at halftime and held off the Bulldogs in the second half. Carson Abbato threw two touchdown passes to Chris Raub in the win, with Abbato adding another TD on the ground. Herron Lee rushed for a score for Bridgeton (0-1) in the loss.

Steinert 47 Burlington City 12 | Battle in the ‘Boro
Junior quarterback John Logorda led the way with 116 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while senior Quinyon Simmons added two rushing scores and a career-best 97 yards. Burlington City scored twice on kickoff returns, including a 93-yard touchdown by Tavion Miller, but Steinert controlled the game throughout. The Spartans look to start 2-0 when they travel to Robbinsville next week.
