Bayonne 6 Cranford 3
After dropping a heartbreaker to unranked St. Peter’s Prep on Wednesday, No. 16 Bayonne baseball got back in the win column Friday with a 6-3 win over Cranford on the road.
Cranford starting pitcher Jackson Schoening pitched three perfect innings to start the game before Michael Tripodi hit a fly out to deep center that scored Brayden Fry on a two-base sacrifice, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead. The Bees answered with four runs in the top of the fourth as Luke Eckert reached home on an error, Brandon Drago hit a two-RBI double, and Carmelo Isler brought home Brayden O’Connor on a sacrifice bunt. With the score 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Fry hit a solo home run to right to make it 5-2. Bayonne’s Chris Cunningham, then hit a solo shot in the top of the seventh to make it 6-2.
After a two-out RBI single off of Sav Raparelli in the bottom of the seventh by Adam Kielczynski and Schoening representing the tying run, Raparelli struck him out to close out the win for the Bees. Bayonne pitcher Sebastian Garcia had a solid start with 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, and 5 Ks.
