It was a big day around the Garden State in high school baseball. Delbarton head coach Bruce Shatel seeks his 1,000th career coaching victory as the top-ranked Green Wave takes on #15 Mount Olive. Point Pleasant Boro and Colts Neck went down to the wire in our ACI Medical & Dental School Game of the Week. Plus, seventh-ranked St. Augustine looks to sweep the season series in a Cape-Atlantic League clash with Vineland. Stay tuned as the highlights are posted throughout the night!
Delbarton 11 Mount Olive 1 (5 innings)
No. 1 Delbarton defeated No. 15 Mount Olive 11-1 on Wednesday in five innings, sweeping their back-to-back series with the Marauders. With the win, Green Wave head coach Bruce Shatel reached 1,000 career wins in his high school coaching career across both baseball and hockey!
Shatel has been Delbarton’s head baseball coach since 2007 and has won two state titles with the Wave, his second baseball head coaching stint after coaching at Roxbury from 1995-98. He also just finished his 25th season as the Delbarton hockey head coach, winning his 13th state title in the process.
Virginia commit Sal Garcia was Delbarton’s star on the day, going 3-3 and bringing home five runs off off a three-run home run, a triple, and a double. Starting pitcher and Wake Forest commit Kyle McBride went 3 2/3 innings with one hit, one earned run, and six strikeouts.

Point Pleasant Boro 4 Colts Neck 2
Aidan Dombrowsky pitched six strong innings allowing just one earned run and striking out seven and Matt Lokerson made a key play in left field and hit the go-ahead RBI single in the 6th inning to give the Panthers (8-3) a fourth straight win. Ryan Rude hit an RBI single for Colts Neck in the 5th inning to tie the game 2-2 but Lokerson was able to get the throw home to get out the go-ahead run. The Cougars (7-4) threatened in the 7th, but John Loizos got a grounder that resulted in a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

St. Augustine 20 Vineland 4 (5 innings)
The Hermits found themselves down 4-0 early but rattled off six runs in the first, then blew things open with a 14 run third inning to pick up their fifth-straight win. Miami commit Ethan Suppi went for five RBIs, Hank Biglin added four of his own, while NJIT commit DJ Lloyd finished with three RBIs for St. Augustine (11-3). Mario Toro and Angelo Conte drove in runs in the loss for Vineland (9-6).
