JSZ hit the diamond on Wednesday afternoon for a pair of great matchups in high school softball. NJ’s strikeout leader Gianna Gomez and Barnegat go for a regular season sweep against Toms River East. Plus, Haddon Heights looks to score a state-ranked victory in a non-conference clash with Allentown. Check back as the highlights are posted throughout the night!


Barnegat 3 Toms River East 1

Gianna Gomez followed up a 22 strikeout performance on Monday with another stellar effort in the circle for the Bengals. The junior tossed a complete game, while racking up 14 strikeouts to push her total to a state-best 125 strikeouts so far this season. Eva Watts had a two RBI single in the win for Barnegat (8-0). Layla Hatton drove in the lone run of the afternoon in the loss for Toms River East (4-2).

Haddon Heights 5 Allentown 2

The Garnets put together a remarkable performance on both offense and defense to knock off a Top 15 team in the state. Jordyn D’Amelio sent one over the center-field fence in the bottom of the first and drove in two more runs in the second inning. Heights’ defense was phenomenal all game, highlighted by several key plays. Haddon Heights (6-2) defeated 14th-ranked Allentown (10-3) for its fifth win in six games.
