Red Bank Catholic 8 St. Augustine 1 | Non-Public “A” South Semifinal

Steve Svenson went the distance on a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and the Caseys were fueled by a four-run first inning to set the pace for a 12-hit attack to end St. Augustine’s six-year reign as Non-Public “A” South champion. Shane Andrus blasted a two-run homer to left as part o the four-run first. Sean Griggs scored three times and Frank Scrivanic and Matt Brunner each had three hits. The Caseys will host St. Joe-Metuchen on Saturday for the Non-Public “A” South title.

St. Joe-Metuchen 11 Notre Dame 3 | Non-Public “A” South Semifinal

(2) St. Joseph (Metuchen) advances to the Non-Public “A” South Final with an 11-3 win over (2) Notre Dame. Joe’s scored in the bottom of the first and quickly got out to an 8-0 lead following a seven run third inning. Notre Dame would finally get on the board in the fifth to trail 8-3, but a three run inside the park home run for Lehigh commit Robbie Carvelli in the bottom of the inning would put the Falcons at a comfortable 11-3 lead late. Fairfield commit Jimmy Mulvaney finished with three hits allowed and seven strikeouts through four innings pitched for Joe’s. Robbie Carvelli ended his afternoon 2-4 with three RBI’s. The Falcons will take on (1) Red Bank Catholic in the Championship.
