For some conferences in New Jersey, tournament season is well underway. For others, they’re just days away. JSZ brings you two extra-inning thrillers from Essex County and Middlesex County on Wednesday. Enjoy the highlights!

(3) West Essex 5 (6) Verona 4 (9 Innings)

Tyler Sorrentino and Joe Vissagio were offensive juggernauts for West Essex in an overtime thriller against Verona. Sorrentino’s perfect bunt in the bottom of the ninth drove Vissagio across the dish for the walk-off win. West Essex (8-2) advances to the semifinals of the Greater Newark Tournament while Verona (6-4) is eliminated. Verona star LHP Pierce Coppola was dominant on the mound – he struck out 12 and allowed three runs across six innings of work.

Monroe 4 East Brunswick 3 (8 Innings)

Monroe (13-2) bounced back from a pair of losses with a 4-3 extra innings win over East Brunswick (6-7). EB jumped out to a 3-0 lead until RBI’s from CJ Wisniewski and Nick Sellari cut it to a one run lead in the bottom of the second. With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Karan Patel – who was 0-4 on the day – drove in the game-winning run on an RBI single to left. Josh Weinstein pitched five innings, allowed four hits, three earned runs and picked up seven strikeouts while Wisniewski let up one hit through three innings pitched and finished with a pair of K’s.
