Welcome to 2019, New Jersey hockey fans! Jersey Sports Zone kicks off the New Year with a boatload of highlights from around New Jersey. We’ll have coverage from wins by Don Bosco Prep and Point Boro, along with a tie between two St. Joseph hockey programs and a Middletown North vs. Marlboro nightcap. Stay tuned for it all!
Don Bosco Prep 4 Princeton Day 1
The current second ranked team in the state, Don Bosco picked up it’s sixth win in row with a 4-1 victory over Princeton Day School to improve to 9-1. After the Ironmen went ahead by two early on, PDS answered back to make it 2-1 to end the first period. That lead would remain the same until the final two minutes of regulation when Liam McLinskey scored his second goal of the game for the Ironmen on an open net that would eventually to an additional late score. Mark Borek’s power play goal with :28 seconds left in the third period earned the Falcons a point and ended a three game losing skid. The Green Knights took a 3-1 lead in the first period capped off by Justin Hughes scoring in the final minute of the first period. JSZ has the highlights from an exciting game in Woodbridge:

Point Boro goaltender John Meyer stopped 22 shots and was instrumental in killing three South Brunswick powerplays as the Panthers captured their eighth win of the season. Meyer now has a .975 save percentage on the season. JSZ’s Jay Cook has the highlights from Monmouth Junction:

Anthony Galante broke a 2-2 tie in the third period with a sharp angle shot from behind the goal line and Justin Solovey added an insurance goal to keep the Mustangs unbeaten at 4-0-2. JSZ has the highlights of a Shore Conference showdown at Middletown Ice World:
