These top-5 lacrosse matchups in 2026 sure have a way of living up to the hype, and this one was no different. No. 2 Summit boys lacrosse pulled a thrilling win on Tuesday as they defeated No. 5 Seton Hall Prep 6-5 in overtime!

The Hilltoppers held a 4-3 lead at the half off of James Grainger’s opening goal and three consecutive goals by Jack Freeman. Quinlan Oakes, Jack Merklinger, and Owen Dunleavy were the goalscorers for the Pirates. Summit’s Cole Sabol scored the lone goal in the third as they led 5-3 heading into the final frame. Dunleavy scored early on and, with 3:00 left, Jack’s brother Drew Merklinger, a senior, scored his first career goal to knot things up.

With just nine seconds remaining in the first overtime period, Summit’s Luke Fowler found a charging Quinn Hynes from behind the cage and the senior midfielder netted the game-winner to 5-0 on the season.
