County and conference tournament season continues as JSZ brings you coverage from the boys Essex County Tournament and the girls Shore Conference Tournament. Plus, Westfield and Princeton need overtime to settle the score, and Cherokee looks to clinch a division title against rival Shawnee. Check back as the highlights are posted throughout the night!
Seton Hall Prep 3 West Essex 1 | Boys | Essex County Tournament Second Round
The Pirates are not the top-seed in this year’s county tournament but that doesn’t mean they won’t be a tough out. Fourth-seeded Seton Hall Prep (11-3-1) scored early to build a lead and picked up some second half insurance to seal the win. Notably, Cian O’Connor’s goal in the sixth minute was an absolute beauty. Thirteenth-seed West Essex (6-8-1) closes out their season next week against Millburn.

Rumson-Fair Haven 2 Point Pleasant Boro 0 | Girls | Shore Conference Tournament Quarterfinal
Duke commit Jordyn Sullivan scored back to back goals in the span of 34 seconds late in the first half to give the #13 seed a spot in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals. Sullivan is now up to 26 goals this season and has been the big factor in this magical run after scoring a golden goal to knock off #4 seed Red Bank Catholic. RFH (12-6) will face top seed Manalapan in the semifinals on Thursday in Neptune.

Westfield 2 Princeton 1 (OT) | Boys
During the 2024 season, Westfield and Princeton battled to a 2-2 draw. Fast forward a year, and the two teams were once again deadlocked after 80 minutes. This time, however, Lucas Grygiel ensured there would be no tie. He scored the golden goal on a beautiful header, perfectly set up by Jake Russell. Westfield (7-7-2) have now won two straight and will shift their focus to Saturday’s Union County Tournament semifinal matchup against Summit. Princeton (13-3-1), meanwhile, close out the regular season with back-to-back losses and will face Ewing in the first round of the CVC Tournament.

Cherokee 1 Shawnee 0 | Boys
Luke Gilmore’s second goal of the season proved to be the difference as the Chiefs knocked off the rival Renegades in a critical Olympic Conference clash. Cole Butler needed just two saves to pick up a clean sheet in net for Cherokee (8-4-2). Antonio Ramos had eight saves in the loss for Shawnee (8-4-2). With the win and a Lenape loss earlier in the day, Cherokee clinched the outright American Division championship.
