Over in girls hoops, defending state champ RBC and St. John Vianney collide in a huge Shore Conference battle, plus Absegami and Wildwood Catholic meet in a key matchup in the Cape-Atlantic League. Seton Hall Prep 65 St. Benedict’s Prep 62 | Boys
The Pirates continue to raise eyebrows in Essex County this winter and their latest win comes in a key divisional showdown with the Gray Bees. Junior Alex Ante led Seton Hall Prep (12-3) with a team-high 21 points and nine rebounds. Dylan Guzzardo had 15 points while Anthony Gonzalez went for 13 points and eight assists in the win. Talented freshman Michai White powered St. Benedict’s Prep (8-7) with a game-high 23 points in the loss. The Pirates improve to 5-0 in the SEC American Division and have sole possession of first place.

Red Bank Catholic 56 St. John Vianney 48 | Girls
Addy Nyemchek scored 10 of her 14 points in the third quarter and the Liggio sistesr (Tessa, Katie and Christina) combined for 26 points, six rebounds and six steals to help the Caseys(10-4) score a huge road win over the defending Shore Conference champions. Sophie Smith had eight points off the bench including a big shot high off the glass in the fourth quarter to put the Caseys up three. Taylor Sofilkanich had 17 points for the Lancers (12-3) who had an eight game win streak snapped.

Fairleigh Dickinson commit Reese Downey delivered in crunch time, scoring 13 of her game-high 21 points in the fourth to lead the Braves to a long-awaited victory against the Crusaders. Meghan Johansen and Emma Grimley each added nine points as Absegami (13-3) notched its sixth-straight win. Damiya Carter went for a team-high 15 points, while Dani Daley chipped in with ten points in the loss for Wildwood Catholic (11-3).
