Week 1 of the high school football season kicks off with plenty of Thursday night action across the Garden State!
Passaic Valley 34 Caldwell 7 | Super Football Conference
The Hornets scored back-to-back defensive touchdowns in the second quarter to build a 27-0 lead and then cruised to an impressive road win to open the 2024 season. Passaic Valley jumped out to a 13-0 lead on a four-yard TD pass from Ralphie Cintron to Vincent Berardi and an A’Miere Simpson 1-yard touchdown run. With under two minutes to go Christian Meletta picked off a pass and ran it 88 yards for a touchdown followed by a Kenny Van Winkle 27-yard scoop and score on the next play from scrimmage to make it 27-0.

South Brunswick 30 North Brunswick 21 | Big Central Conference
The Vikings stormed back from a 21-7 deficit to beat their rival for the first time since 2017. Dason Boateng had an incredible game with a 90 yard fumble recovery to set up the game tying score and a 45 yard scoop and score touchdown following a safety which gave South Brunswick its first lead of the game.

Newark Central 14 Snyder 6 | Super Football Conference
Zahir Wilson’s late four quarter touchdown helped the Blue Devils to a solid win and their first 2-0 start to a a decade. Monmouth commit Jahsyn Reid scored a 61-yard trick play in the first quarter and he now 4 touchdowns in the last two weeks. Rutgers commit DJ McClary scored the Tigers’ lone touchdown in the loss.

Camden Catholic 36 KIPP Academy 0 | West Jersey Football League
The Irish defense put on a masterful performance as they dominated from the opening whistle and shut down the Titans in their season opener. Terrance Barnes had an interception, while Villanova commit Sean Welde, Joel Amegatcher, and Sean O’Reilly had big days in the front seven. Nymir Daily ran for three touchdowns, and Mike Moritz added a pair of rushing touchdowns for Camden Catholic (1-0). Jaheim Edmondson and Sincere Betha had interceptions in the loss for KIPP Cooper Norcross Academy (1-1), which came off its first win as a member of the WJFL.
