We’ve reached the sectional semifinal round in the Non-Public state playoffs as JSZ brings you a trio of tremendous matchups from the diamond. Check back as the highlights are posted throughout the night!

Don Bosco Prep 2 Seton Hall Prep 1 | Non-Public “A” North Semifinal

The Becker name has become synonymous with Ironmen baseball over the years – that last name also means you have the clutch gene. Junior shortstop Nicky Becker hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to propel Don Bosco (25-3) to an extra innings win. The early innings were dictated by elite pitching from two of the state’s best – Don Bosco’s Jason Kuhn and Seton Hall Prep’s Marcelo Harsch. The Ironmen will host Delbarton on Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Non-Public A North Sectional Final.

Red Bank Catholic 5 Immaculata 2 | Non-Public “A” South Semifinal

Sophomore Glen Popes stepped in for a depleted RBC pitching staff and threw six and two-thirds innings in his first varsity start to pick up the win and Luke Frankel had a three RBI day to get the Caseys back to the section finals.  Popes threw 112 pitches after throwing just 9.1 innings this season.  RBC will host Saint Augustine on Saturday with the winner heading to the state championship game.

Bloomsberg commit Christian Mascuilli belted a two-run single to cap off a four-run first inning for second-seeded Bishop Eustace (21-6). Dante Matarese added a pair of RBIs in the victory. Mike Tomkinson and Liam Nesemeier drove in runs in the loss for sixth-seeded Holy Cross Prep (16-8). The Crusaders advance to face top-seeded Gloucester Catholic on Saturday.
