Lower Cape May 4 Middle Twp. 3 | South Group 2 Opening Round
Evan Shoffler delivered a walk-off hit with two outs in the seventh inning to lift the Caper Tigers over archrival Middle. Shoffler had three hits on the day, and struck out 14 in a complete game effort. Matt DiCave also drove in a run for Lower (15-11), which advances to face fourth-seeded Cedar Creek in the next round. Antonio Panzini drove in a pair of runs for the Panthers (9-13) in the loss.

Moorestown 4 Absegami 0 | South Group 3 Opening Round
North Carolina commit Ryan Lynch did a little bit of everything to help the Quakers reach the sectional quarterfinals. Lynch struck out ten batters in a complete game shutout, and broke the game open with a three RBI double in the fifth. Alabama commit Chase Kroberger hit his ninth home run of the season in the win for eighth-seeded Moorestown (12-9). Michael Harless allowed four runs with six strikeouts over four and two-thirds innings in the loss for Absegami (12-9). The Quakers advance to face top-seeded Cherry Hill West next week.

Bayonne 6 Woodbridge 4 | North 2 Group 4 Opening Round
The Bees are the reigning champions in this section, but are faced with a different road to the final this year. Eleventh-seeded Bayonne (13-13) went on the road and orchestrated a first round upset as two of the state’s top public school aces clashed. Bayonne’s Nolan Geisler out-dueled sixth-seeded Woodbridge’s Eddy Nunez to earn the win. Trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning, Bayonne’s bats came alive and the Bees exploded for six runs and they’d never look back from there. Geisler tossed six solid innings with eight strikeouts, along with his 200th career punch out coming along the way. Bayonne advances to face No. 3 seed Ridge in the quarterfinal round next week.

Point Pleasant Boro 3 Ocean Township 1 | Central Group 2 Opening Round
Bryson Kirby had a two-run single in the fifth inning and pitched six strong innings allowing just one run and striking out 10 to give the #10 seed a road win in the state playoffs. Point Boro will face the winner of Manasquan and #2 seed Spotswood next week in the second round.
