Delbarton 3 Don Bosco Prep 1 | Mid-Atlantic Baseball Challenge Quarterfinal
A pitchers duel turned into a showcase for one of New Jersey’s biggest prospects as No. 3 Delbarton defeated No. 6 Don Bosco Prep 3-1 in the Mid-Atlantic Baseball Challenge quarterfinals on Thursday.
The first five innings were scoreless as the Ironman’s Thomas Collins had nine strikeouts and allowed two hits, while the Green Wave’s Ted Masino had six strikeouts and three hits. Then, in the sixth, Bosco’s Matt Denoyelles hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Ty Madden to give them a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half, Virginia commit Sal Garcia had all men aboard with two outs. The star shortstop laced new pitcher Jake Farley’s 2-2 pitch to the left field, and the bases cleared as the Wave took a 3-1 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Don Bosco’s Junzen Sarza represented the lead run with men on first and second and two out. The 1-1 pitch was lined up the middle, but Garcia leapt into the air to make an incredible catch for the final out!
Delbarton will now face Poly Prep (NY) on Friday at 4:00 at home for a spot in Sunday’s Mid-Atlantic Challenge final.
