County tournament season is officially here! Semifinal action from the Somerset County Tournament headlines today’s coverage while we also pay a visit to two other conference matchups. Check back often as the highlights come in!


Ridge 6 Pingry 2 | Somerset County Tournament Semifinal

Iona commit Brendan Callanan struck out 11 batters across six shutout innings as the second-seeded Red Devils punched their ticket back to the county final. Callanan, who is sporting a 0.64 ERA this season, pitched arguably his best game of the year for Ridge (10-2). Callanan also delivered two RBI, Nick Rossi launched a solo home run while both Julian Kielb and Connor Byrne each had RBI knocks. Sixth-seed Pingry (6-4) got on the board late in the seventh inning with a two-run single from Nick Lorenzo. The Red Devils are the defending SCT champions and will face 12-seed Rutgers Prep in the final for the second year in a row – that game is set for May 9 at TD Bank Ballpark.

Neptune 4 Red Bank Regional 3

Joe Juliano pitched 5.2 innings of shutout ball in relief allowing just one hit and striking out six and delivered the game-winning RBI on an infield single as the Scarlet Fliers dug out of a 3-0 first-inning hole to gain a split in the two-game divisional series.

Spotswood vs. South River

Spotswood picked up back to back wins following a close 1-0 victory over GMC Blue rival South River. The game remained scoreless until the top of the seventh when Dylan Kartelias scored on a wild pitch in the dirt for the game’s only run. Spotswood pitcher Jackson Walsh gave up one hit to accompany four strikeouts in the shut out.
