High school hockey cup season is quickly drawing to a close, and Jersey Sports Zone hit the two biggest boys games that the Garden State had to offer on Thursday! In Randolph, No. 1 Delbarton faces No. 5 St. Augustine in the Gordon Cup semis. Also, Brick and Howell-Matawan battle in the Handchen Cup final in an OT thriller in Wall. Delbarton 5 St. Augustine 1 | Gordon Cup Semifinal
No. 1 Delbarton hockey will have a chance at back-to-back Gordon Cup titles after defeating No. 5 St. Augustine Prep 5-1 in Thursday’s Cup semifinal.
The goals came fast to start out the afternoon with Delbarton’s Egor Andreev and St. Augustine’s Jae Chalmers scoring within 20 seconds of each other in the early 1st period. The Green Wave then took over in the 2nd with two goals from Aidan Pasic and one from Michael Pirot. Ryan Kovacs added one more with less than 2:00 remaining in the 3rd. In all, the Green Wave put 43 shots on goal against Hermits goalie KJ Williams vs. just 12 shots against their goalie Paul Insauto.
Next up will be Wednesday’s Gordon Cup final vs. No. 2 Don Bosco Prep at Codey Arena, the Green Wave’s fourth straight appearance.
