Marlboro 7 Manalapan 4 | Central Group 4

Mark Capell pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the 7th to give the #9 seed a win over the top seed and defending sectional champ. Capell, a Yale commit, threw a complete game giving up just one earned run and striking out 7. Frank Talarico and Antonio Vitale each had a pair of RBI’s in the upset win. Marlboro will host #12 seed Old Bridge this Tuesday with a spot in the sectional championship on the line.

Verona 11 Madison 6 | North 2 Group 2

Verona’s bats are getting red hot at the right time. After scoring 10 runs in the opening round, the Hillbillies (14-7) delivered 11 more in victory against No. 3 seed Madison (16-6-1). Tom Radigan opened the scoring with a first inning three-run home run. Both he and Ben Mackey each had 4 RBI in the outburst. MLB Draft prospect Pierce Coppola was once again dominant – the Florida commit struck out 14 batters in 6 2/3 innings. Sixth-seeded Verona will face second-seed Hanover Park in the sectional semifinals.

St. Augustine 4 Notre Dame 1 | Non-Public A South

Bryant commit Jackson Vanesko struck out seven over four innings of work to earn the win, while Purdue commit Ryan Weingartner struck out five over the final two innings to pick up the save for the Hermits. Weingartner also added an RBI single, with Rhode Island commit Brody McKenzie driving in a pair of runs in the victory. St. Augustine (21-6) will host a Non-Public A South semifinal game on Monday. Gavin Martin had an RBI single for Notre Dame (9-8) in the loss.

Williamstown 3 Rancocas Valley 1 | South Group 4

The Braves got a lights-out pitching performance from senior Greg Zerbe as they knock off the Red Devils to punch its ticket to the semifinals in South Group 4. Zerbe scattered five hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out eight in the victory for top-seeded Williamstown. Junior Matt McIntire had a pair of RBIs with senior Ryan Achey also knocking in a run for the Braves. Senior Reece Dos Santos knocked in the only run in the loss for eighth-seeded Rancocas Valley. Williamstown now faces fifth-seed Jackson Memorial in the South Group 4 semifinals.
