JJ Drennan pitched 6 and 2/3 innings of two-hit ball with just two walks and 11 strikeouts to lead the Pirates (20-4) to a third straight GNT championship and 21st in history.  Joey Maiella hit a three-run double in the third as part of a four run frame and Jordan Burnwell hit a two-run double in the sixth.  Joe Pontoriero got the final out to secure the win.  Nutley pitcher Sean Fealey struck out 13 in five and 2/3 innings.

Saint Peter’s Prep 2 Bayonne 1 | Hudson County Tournament Final

St. Peter’s Prep baseball (17-8) is once again atop Hudson County as the two-seed Marauders defeated top-seed Bayonne (18-7) 2-1 in Saturday’s Hudson County Tournament final. The Bees got the action started with a bang as Brandon Drago hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the 1st to go ahead 1-0. It took until the 6th for Prep to answer back as Andrew Breihof hit an RBI single to tie it up. Then, in the top of the 7th, David Tallarida drilled an RBI double down the left field line to score the go-ahead and deciding run.

The biggest story for the Marauders, however, was their pitching. Starter and Seton Hall commit Logan Chi went 6.2 innings with 10 strikeouts, three hits, and one earned run. Anthony Huaranga then came in the for the last-out save and struck out Ian Geisler to clinch the win.
