Colonia 57 Chatham 46 | Boys | North 2 Group 3 Final

The Colonia boys basketball dynasty rolls on! The Patriots defeated Chatham 56-47 on Saturday to win their fifth consecutive North 2 Group 4 title.

The teams started out even with a 17-17 first quarter, and the second quarter was also competitive with the Patriots holding a 29-24 lead at the half. It was then a neck-and-neck second half until midway through the fourth quarter when Colonia pulled away and padded their lead to clinch the title. Sophomore guard Jayce Rodriguez was the game’s high scorer with 25, bringing his season total to 598! Michael MacAniff was the Cougars’ leading scorer with 14, followed by Marco Mannino with 12.

The Patriots will now face Montville at Elizabeth High School in Wednesday’s state semifinals.

Westampton Tech 66 Middletown South 56 | Boys | Central Group 3 Final

For the first time in program history, Westampton Tech (23-8) are sectional champions. After Middletown South (17-12) went on a 10-1 run to cut the deficit to 31-30 midway through the third quarter, the Panthers responded with a dominant 14-0 run to close the frame and never looked back. Jason Livingstone led all scorers with 20 points, while Henry Njoga added 15. WesTech claims one of if not their biggest win in program history.

Colts Neck 43 Red Bank Regional 28 | Girls | Central Group 3 Final

Allison McAndrew scored 17 points and fellow sophomore Julianna Jasina added 12 to give the Cougars (23-6) their first section championship since 2014.  Red Bank Regional trailed by six at the half and rallied in the third.  Riley Wheeler made back to back three-pointers and Synai Blychanton’s hoop and foul got RBR (14-13) within 26-24 but the Cougars took control of the game in the fourth quarter.

Shabazz 95 Newark Arts 72 | Boys | North 2 Group 1 Final

Anthony Blackmon had one of the top performances of the post-season with 37 points including as 23 point outburst in the third quarter to give the Bulldogs (27-1) their first section championship in 16 years.
