It’s the second day of basketball state championships at Jersey Mike’s Arena and on Saturday we officially close the books on Groups 1 and 3. Stay tuned throughout the night as highlights from four state finals are posted!


New Providence 42 Glen Ridge 36 | Girls | Group 1 State Final

New Providence (30-2) won Group 2 back in 2023, today they added a Group 1 title and their 2nd in 3 seasons. Down 1 at the half, the Pioneers outscored Glen Ridge (23-9) by 9 and never looked back. Annie Conover led all players with 18 points, capping off an incredible junior year. New Providence finishes the season with a resounding 30 wins!

Thrive Charter 63 Newark Tech 51 | Boys| Group 1 State Final

In their first year as a public school, the Titans are standing alone at the top of the mountain in Group 1. Thrive Charter, formerly Trenton Catholic before this year, pulled away from Newark Tech in the fourth quarter to secure their first state title. Marjon Skillman led all players with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the win while Tyler Hammond dropped 15 points in the victory for Thrive Charter (26-4). Malcolm Bragg went for 14 points and six rebounds in his final high school game for Newark Tech (24-5).

Cherry Hill West 34 Chatham 19 | Girls | Group 3 State Final

The Lions put on a defensive masterclass at Jersey Mike’s Arena to lock down the first state championship in program history. West seized the momentum in the second quarter with Kirsten Gibson going on a personal 8-0 run as the sophomore finished with a game-high 16 points. Mercyhurst commit Julia Lewis was tremendous on defense and went for seven points for Cherry Hill West (25-4). Arden Alvarez and Ella von Doussa each scored a team-high five points for Chatham (31-3), which reached the state final for a second-straight season.

Colts Neck 54 Ramapo 46| Boys | Group 3 State Final

Lukas Sloane had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Cougars to the school’s first ever boys basketball state title.  Sloane had 13 of the Cougars 15 points in the first half keeping his team in the game.  Trailing 20-15 afer two quarters, Colts Neck stormed back and took its first lead on a Dillon Younger three-pointer in the third.  Trailing by one heading into the fourth, the Cougars erupted for 17 points in the final eight minutes.  Jack Freid had 11 and Younger added 9 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds.  Ryan Goldman led Ramapo with 12 points.  The Raiders two year reign as Group 3 state champs comes to a close.
