It’s the final day of the 2020 boys soccer season. JSZ brings you coverage from all over the state as we close the chapter on a shortened, yet action-packed year with sectional final highlights!


Monroe 3 Elizabeth 2 | Central East, Group 4 Final | 2 OT

It took 98 minutes but a Central East, Group 4 Champion was crowned in Monroe following a 3-2 victory from the Falcons (14-0-1) over Elizabeth (10-2-3) in double overtime. The Minutemen would score early in the first half, but two costly calls allowed Monroe to connect on penalty kicks to lead 2-1 late into the closing moments of regulation. Elizabeth would tie the game in 78′ and in double overtime Zach Martinho would score the golden goal to cap off this unforgettable soccer season. Gill St. Bernard’s 3 Pingry 2 | Central/West Non-Public Final

Gavin Scavino’s upper 90 left foot blast from 18-yards out in the 58th minute proved to be the game winner as the Knights beat Pingry for a second straight time in 2020 to claim a sectional title and the #1 ranking in the state. David Frankel gave GSB a 1-0 lead and Micaah Garnette scored with a 25-yard blast in the final minute of the half to give the Knights a 2-0 edge. Pingry cut it to 3-1 on a Daniel Ittycheria header before Scavino gave the Knights a two goal cushion. Tristan Sampedro cut it to 3-2 but Pingry could not find the equalizer. Delbarton 7 Morris Catholic 2 | Northwest Non-Public Final

Delbarton is as seasoned as they come when it comes to playoff action. The Green Wave flexed their muscles Saturday morning with five first-half goals to score a sectional championship win. Senior Curt Calov ended his Green Wave career with a pair of goals.

Middlesex 7 Brearley 1 | Central East, Group 1 Final

Middlesex experienced a pair of firsts to end the 2020 Boys Soccer season. The Blue Jays captured their first sectional title and completed their first undefeated season (17-0) with a 7-1 win over Brearley (6-3).
