Four public boys state champions were crowned on Saturday at Franklin High School. The Jersey Sports Zone team brings you highlights and post-match reaction from all four games!


Princeton 3 Kearny 2 | Group 4 State Championship

Harvey Smith scored just :14 seconds into the match and assisted on Archie Smith’s game-winner in the 77th that went off a defender to give the Little Tigers their first outright state championship since 2009.  Kearny’s Hans Zoller and Denilson Salinas scored two minutes apart to take a 2-1 lead at the half. Pasquale Carusone tied the game in the 47th minute. Princeton finishes the season with a 22-2 record.

Ramsey 2 Delran 0 | Group 2 State Championship

The Rams’ trademark defense was unflappable in the final and that unit helped secure the program’s first championship since back in 2007. Penn commit Patrick Weir, who anchored that outstanding back line, assisted on a key goal in the first half that set the tone for the win. Max Nierenberg and Kiran Dewen scored both of the Rams’ goals. Ramsey and Delran have met in each of the last three Group 2 finals – the Rams finally got the best of one of New Jersey’s top programs.

Shore Regional 1 Brearley 0 (OT) | Group 1 State Championship

Steven Molnar scored from close range off a Max Eichenbaum pass in the 86th minute to give the Blue Devils its first ever boys soccer state championship. Shore wins 10 of its last 11 matches to finish the year 17-7.
