JSZ closes out January with a great Saturday slate in high school hoops. We are on milestone watch as Howell takes on Toms River South in our ACI Medical and Dental School Girls Game of the Week. No. 1 St. John Vianney also battles No. 5 Morris Catholic in girls action at the More Than a Highlight Showcase! Then, in boys hoops, RBC goes for its 14th win of the season as they host Point Pleasant Beach. Plus, defending state champs collide as Manasquan battles Thrive Charter as part of the Jeff Coney Classic at Rancocas Valley. Check back as the highlights are posted throughout the afternoon!

St. John Vianney 53 | Morris Catholic 40 | Girls

The No. 1 girls hoops team in the state St. John Vianney entered Saturday’s game vs. No. 5 Morris Catholic at the More Than a Highlight Showcase shorthanded, as Georgetown commit Stella Jackson was out with an ankle injury. Needing a true team effort, three Lancers had double-digit scoring as they picked up the 53-40 win.

The usual suspects came through, as always: Duke commit Taylor Sofilkanich had 12, while the team’s leading scorer and Penn commit Madison Kocis had 11. But leading all Lancers was senior guard Charlotte Bradley with 13 in what was one of her first games with significant minutes this year after having offseason knee surgery!

SJV now improves to 17-2 on the year, while the Crusaders fall to 12-5.
