We kick off the final week of the spring season with three great sectional championship games from all over the Garden State. Enjoy the highlights!
Allentown 3 Middletown South 1 | Central Group 3 Final
JC Laquara broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the 7th with an inside-the-park home run and the Redbirds added an insurance run to set the table for Eddie Werse who got his 10th strikeout on his 110th pitch to finish off a Redbirds win and a section championship. Werse and Middletown South’s Mason Christopher both pitched outstanding and Laquara’s rare moment proved to be the difference. Allentown will face Delsea for a spot in the Group 3 state championship.
JSZ’s Rich Chrampanis has the highlights and post-game reaction from a fantastic title game in Middletown:
Morris Knolls 13 West Essex 3 | North 1 Group 3 Final
The Golden Eagles offense was laser focused as they rolled through the Knights in five innings to win their second straight sectional championship. Top-seeded Morris Knolls (26-5) scored 12 unanswered runs to lock up the win. Dylan Fitzsimmons had a huge three-run double and Michael Simone went 3-3 at the dish with three runs scored. Third-seeded West Essex (24-5) pulled in front early thanks to a two-RBI day from Danny Gianetti, but couldn’t hold the lead. Morris Knolls will travel to face Randolph in a Group 3 semifinal on Wednesday.
