County tournament season is alive and well in New Jersey. We’ve got a pair of tournament semifinal games as baseball across the state heats up. Stay tuned for all the highlights!


Rutgers Prep 6 Somerville 3 | Somerset County Tournament Semifinal

A strong outing from freshman southpaw Zach Fronio has the sixth-seeded Argonauts back in the county final for the first time in five seasons. Fronio hurled 95 pitches and four strikeouts across six strong innings to help get Rutgers Prep (13-2) into the title game in a convincing win against second seed Somerville (10-8). Max Treonze led the offense with a 3-4 day and a pair of RBI in the win. Rutgers Prep will face top-seeded Ridge in the county final on May 23.

Middletown South 2 Red Bank Catholic 0 (9 Innings) | Monmouth County Tournament Semifinal

Joe Stanzione blasted a 2-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 9th inning to break a scoreless tie and give the Eagles a spot in the Monmouth County Tournament championship game next Monday. The game was highlighted by an incredible pitcher’s duel between Middletown South’s Ben Schild and RBC’s Alex Stanyek. Stanyek threw six shutout innings allowing 2 hits, walking three and striking out 13. Schild was able to pitch 8.1 shutout innings with 10 K’s and allowed only 2 hits and one walk. Middletown South will face the winner of Marlboro and Wall this Friday for the Monmouth County title. JSZ’s Rich Chrampanis has the highlights of an outstanding game in Middletown:
