It’s tournament time once again this week on the diamond. JSZ has three great games to get the week started!

Cranford 1 Gov. Livingston 0 | Union County Tournament Final

Freshman Brayden Fry delivered the biggest hit of his young high school career Monday night when he smashed a walk-off RBI double lifting the Cougars to their second-straight county title. Top-seed Cranford (21-0) is the final undefeated team in New Jersey and showed many times throughout this game why that’s the case. Sean Woodruff tossed seven shutout innings with three strikeouts to keep second-seeded Gov. Livingston (16-5) at bay. Highlanders’ starter Johnathon Schmidt’s only major blemish was giving up that RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning – he struck out six batters in the loss.

Red Bank Catholic 4 Middletown North 2 | Shore Conference Tournament Quarterfinal

Dylan Passo broke a 2-2 tie in the third with a 2-run single that proved to be the game-winning hit and Steve Svenson threw six shutout innings after giving up two runs in the first for a complete game 5-hitter to give the Caseys a spot in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals. The Caseys will face rival CBA for a spot in Sunday’s championship game this Thursday.

Vineland 5 Absegami 2 | Cape-Atlantic League Tournament Quarterfinal

The Fighting Clan scored four runs in the fifth inning to punch a ticket to the CAL Tournament semifinals. Benedetto Andreoli and Anthony Rokotz each had an RBI, while Nikolas Bancroft came on in relief to earn the win on the mound for Vineland (15-8). Mike DeBlasio struck out eight and had an RBI single for the Braves (13-6) in the loss. The third-seeded Fighting Clan will now face second-seeded St. Augustine on Wednesday.
