We’ve got the start of championship week with the Union County final plus two pitcher’s duals in the second round of the Shore Conference Tournament

Governor Livingston 10 Westfield 8 | Union County Tournament Final

A wild, 15-run seventh inning produced loads of fireworks as the UCT championship went down to the wire. Second-seeded Gov. Livingston (19-3) led 3-0 going into the seventh and then plated seven runs. Top-seeded Westfield (16-4) then responded by scoring eight runs in the bottom half of the inning, before GL’s Anthony DeNora got the final out with the game-winning run at the plate. The Highlanders led for most of the game thanks to junior ace Matty Diskin, who struck out 11 batters over six innings of work. Zach Geertsma had 2 RBI and a triple in the win.

Colts Neck 2 Donovan Catholic 1 (9 Innings) | Shore Conference Tournament 2nd Round

Anthony Vallaro’s RBI single to right field in the ninth inning gave the Cougars a walk-off win and a spot in the quartefinals of the Shore Conference Tournament.  Donovan Catholic starter Jake Marciano delivered an incredible performance throwing 8.2 innings, striking out 16 and walking none.  After an unearned run in the 1st, Marciano settled down and at one point struck out seven straight Cougars and retired 20 in a row.  He left the game with two outs in the ninth after reaching the 110 pitch limit.  Colts Neck got a great effort on the mound from Nick Hayden and Tosh Mancini.  Colts Neck will take on #2 seed CBA in the quarterfinals.
