We’re another week into the spring season, and JSZ showcases two exciting showdowns from across the Garden State!
DePaul Catholic 3 Paramus Catholic 1
No. 16 DePaul Catholic softball (11-3) picked up their biggest win of the season thus far on Monday as the Spartans defeated No. 15 Paramus Catholic (9-2) 3-1 in a comeback effort. The Paladins took an 1-0 lead in the first as USF commit DiLynn Jeffries-El scored all the way from second on a Sabrina Delgado fielder’s choice. DePaul then tied things up in the fourth as Ava Melbourne brought home Kaelyn Brown on an RBI single.
Things stayed knotted up until the top of the seventh when DePaul junior starting pitcher Abby Kiem hit an RBI single to score Jozelynn Cedeno to take the lead. Emma Cifelli then scored Makenzie Wines for the deciding score of 3-1. Kiem was the winning pitcher with a complete game with seven strikeouts and one earned run. This marks her eighth complete game victory of the season.
