We’re now into the third week of the hockey season and teams are starting to come into themselves. We’ve got a trio of matchups to get the week started. Stay tuned as all the highlights come in!

Pope John 3 Seton Hall Prep 1

After starting the year at 0-3, the Lions were due to fight for a victory and get into the win column. That’s exactly what happened in West Orange as the Jarosiewicz brothers (Luke and Jack) each scored key goals in a Gordon Conference win over the Pirates. Tyler Paluzzi made 23 stops on the night and Matt Hughes buried an empty-net goal in the late stages of the third period to secure the win. Pope John and Seton Hall Prep each share 1-3 records on the season.

Rumson-Fair Haven 1 St. John Vianney 0

Dominic Panke’s power-play goal with 26.7 seconds left in the third period gave Rumson-Fair Haven a last-minute win to support the stellar play of Alex Baret in the net.  Baret had 19 saves for the shutout, many of which were high quality.  RFH is 2-1-2 following a 2-2 tie with state power Chatham with a win over a Shore rival.

Liam Yeoman scored three minutes into the first to give Hopewell an early 1-0 lead, Liam Campbell would tie the game with nine seconds remaining in the period. The Little Tigers went up 3-1 in the third, a Matt Greenspoon goal cut the deficit to 3-2 late, but Cooper Zullo would score on an empty net at the end of regulation.
