The state playoff are swiftly approaching as JSZ hits the pitch for a pair of great South Jersey matchups. Mainland and Absegami slug it out with a spot in the Cape-Atlantic League Tournament final on the line. Plus, Kingsway and Washington Township tangle in Tri-County Conference action. Mainland 1 (5) Absegami (3) (PKs) | Girls | Cape-Atlantic League Tournament Semifinal

The second-seeded Mustangs found themselves in a battle but found a way to outlast the third-seeded Braves in penalty kicks to reach the CAL Tournament Final. Riley Townsend had eight saves in regulation, then made a critical stop in the shootout to set up Maddie Taylor’s match-clinching goal in the victory. St. Joe’s commit Emma Tenaglia netted her 20th goal of the year for Mainland (11-3). Ogechi Wokocha scored her 19th of the season, while Keara Lawlor racked up 19 saves for Absegami (13-2). Mainland will face top-seeded Egg Harbor Township for the CAL Tournament title on Wednesday.

Kingsway 2 Washington Twp. 2 (OT) | Girls

After 100 hard-fought minutes, we were left without a winner. Within the first two minutes of the match, Alyssa Reiter and Talia Griscom scored for the Dragons. TWp erased the lead later in the first half with goals from Corrine Myers and Isabella Wicken. These teams won’t have to wait long for a rematch, as they’ll square off again on Saturday in the first round of the South Jersey Coaches Association Tournament

Middletown South 1 Marlboro 0 | Boys | Shore Conference Tournament Quarterfinal

Connor Saul scored in the 14th minute for the only goal of the match and Carson Perry’s five saves gave the Eagles a sixth consecutive clean sheet.  Middletown South reaches the Shore Conference semifinals for the first time since 2012.  The Eagles (10-3-1) will face top seed CBA.  The other semi features Colts Neck against Freehold Township.
