Mount Olive 8 Delbarton 7 | Morris County Tournament Final

No. 19 Mount Olive baseball (17-6) pulled one of the biggest stunners of the New Jersey baseball season on Friday night, defeating No. 1 Delbarton (22-4) 8-7 to win the Morris County Tournament and snap the Green Wave’s six-year title streak. This also marks the Marauders’ first title since 1991.

Delbarton put up five runs in the 1st inning to go up 5-1, but Mount Olive came back to take a 7-5 lead with Rutgers commit Brayden Longo hitting a three-run home run in the 4th inning. Then, the Green Wave tied the game at 7 in the 6th inning as Danny Haggard was hit by a Longo pitch with the bases loaded. In the top of the 7th, Mount Olive’s Louis Carter hit an RBI double that scored pinch runner Tanner Bush from first to take the 8-7 lead.

In the bottom of the 7th, Longo, in his second inning of relief, had runners on the corners with no one out. He then struck out Nolan Bruno and Finn O’Loughlin lined out for a game-ending double play after a catch by shortstop Zach Broderson.
