Who’s ready for some championship hockey? Jersey Sports Zone has highlights and reactions from three major county/conference finals Friday night as champions were made in Mercer County along within the Gordon and Kolodney Cups.


CBA 2 Don Bosco 0 | Gordon Cup Final

CBA goaltender John Donohoe turned in a magical performance for the Colts as the sophomore turned away 25 shots to shutout Don Bosco Prep, the defending Gordon Cup champions. CBA defenseman Chad Schneider scored early in the first period after a clear from behind his net trickled in past Don Bosco’s Ethan Marich. The Colts nursed a 1-0 lead for nearly 50 minutes before Kyle Contessa scored on an empty-netter to seal the win.

Princeton 7 Hun 5 | Mercer County Tournament Final

Just about 40 years to the day of Team USA’s Miracle on Ice, Princeton pulls off their own miracle as they comeback from a 5-2 deficit in the the third period to defeat six-time defending Mercer County Champions, Hun. Senior Rocco Salvato finishes with four goals, including three in the final period. JSZ’s Nery Rodriguez has the highlights:

St. Joe-Metuchen 4 Monroe 3 | GMC Kolodney Cup Final

Christian Cuccia’s third-period goal gave St. Joe’s a 4-2 lead and proved to be the game-winner to give St. Joe-Metuchen the GMC title for the eighth time in the last nine years. St. Joe’s jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Ryan Borek and Joe Morello and never surrendered the lead. Monroe got two goals from Penn State commit Gleb Veremyev in the loss.
