Allentown 5 Holy Cross 4 – Walk Off
The undefeated streak continues for defending Group 3 Champion Allentown. In their latest match up the Red Birds squared off with one of South Jersey’s best, Holy Cross. However it was the Lancers who controlled most of the contest. Jeff Undercuffler gave Holy Cross a 2-0 lead in the top of the first off a 2 RBI single. Allentown unable to get anything going until Justin Marcario tied the game on a 2 RBI double and then freshman Dan Merkel in the same inning delivered a 2 run base knock of his own to help them take their first lead of the game. Holy Cross regained the lead in the top of the seventh, then with 2 runners on Giuseppe Arcuri delivered the game winning hit to give the Red Birds a 5-4 walk off victory from Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton. North Hunterdon 10 Montgomery 5
Montgomery and North battle it out with the Lions only leading by one run through the fifth inning, but in the sixth North played some small-ball and extended their lead to five after a perfectly executed suicided squeeze by Matt Busher, and a single to right from Matt Wagner to bring in two additional runs. Freehold Township 8 Howell 3
The Patriots score six runs in the 5th to even its record at 3-3. Nick Portaleos started the rally with a two run base hit to left to give the Patriots a 3-2 lead. Chris Goodman added an RBI double and Cristian Corcione delivered an RBI single as part of the six run frame. JSZ has the highlights from the Shore Conference’s “A” North Division:
Cristian Corcione wins JSZ Game Ball!
Freehold Township shortstop Cristian Corcione won our first Monmouth Building Center Game Ball vote last week. Following the Patriots 8-3 win over Howell, we turned things over to coach Todd Smith who presented Cristian with the Game Ball thanks to his game-winning hit last week against Marlboro.
