For hundreds of high school baseball players around the country, getting Tommy John surgery before graduation is a reality. That’s exactly the case for two pitchers at New Jersey powerhouse Don Bosco Prep.
On Wednesday, RHP Dylan Henshaw made his first in-game appearance in 22 months after recovering from his UCL repair. He struck out three in a scoreless inning of work to beat rival Bergen Catholic. Henshaw was a weapon for the Ironmen in 2023, helping lead them to a Non-Public A state championship.
Also on Wednesday, Ironmen senior ace Jason Kuhn underwent Tommy John surgery after injuring his UCL earlier in the year. Kuhn was Don Bosco’s go-to big arm in 2024 – he made 10 starts, struck our 62 batters in 42 and a third innnings all while twirling a 0.32 earned run average. His absence is a huge loss for the Ironmen this spring.
JSZ’s Jay Cook has the story on one young man returning from a long recovery while another just begins that journey:
