Before Super Bowl Sunday, we had a Super Saturday on the mat in Manahawkin. Southern Regional and Delsea have won seven state wrestling titles over the last four years. Watch all the highlights of a tremendous dual that went down to the very last match!
Southern Regional 37 Delsea 31
Freshman Jonas Lusker used a late third period takedown to secure a 5-1 decision at 106 pounds in the final match to clinch a thrilling dual. Southern Regional is the three-time defending Group 5 state champion while Delsea is going for a fifth straight Group 3 state title later this month. Southern won the first three matches to race out to a 17-0 lead and took a 34-22 lead on a Nick Daddona pin at 190. Delsea stormed back with a Sal Marchese 4-3 decision at 215 followed by a Greg Sawyer pin at heayweight to get within 34-31. Lusker scored a two point reversal on Adam Froelich in the second period before his third period heroics.
