On a cold and windy day at Howell High School, the St. John Vianney football team took to the field for the first time since senior quarterback and defensive back Aaron Van Trease suffered a serious spinal cord injury.  Van Trease is still hospitalized at RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick and his prognosis and long-term outlook is unknown at this time.  The SJV football team looks to honor their injured teammate by sticking together and playing for AVT18.

St. John Vianney 28 Marlboro 14

Kyle Verriest had a pair of touchdowns and quarterback Michael Foley had a TD run and TD pass to help the Lancers with a fifth straight game.  Marlboro took a 7-0 lead on a Matt Cassidy 2-yard TD run in the first with Foley scoring from 5-yards out to tie the game at 7 at halftime.  Verriest took advantage of a punt that was pushed back due to the wind and ran 37 yards to give the Lancers a 14-7 lead.  Trailing 20-7, Marlboro closed out the third quarter with a Ryan Mendez 95-yard kickoff return for a score but Verriest caught a 27-yard TD in the fourth to seal the victory.
